Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, stir the melted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth and glossy.
- Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla to the butter mixture and stir until thick and creamy.
- Pour dry ingredients into the wet mixture and mix until flour is no longer visible, but do not overmix.
Baking
- Fold in chocolate chips and optional chopped chocolate.
- Scoop dough into balls (about 2 tablespoons each) and leave space between them on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are set and the centers are slightly underdone.
- Let cookies sit on the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For extra bakery-style cookies, press a few chocolate chips on top immediately after baking. Chilling the dough (30 minutes to overnight) can enhance flavor and texture. To make gluten-free, use a 1-to-1 gluten-free flour blend.
