Preparation
  1. In a warm bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Stir and let sit for 2 to 3 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, salt, and 2 and 3/4 cups of flour. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then add flour one tablespoon at a time if it's very sticky.
  3. Knead by hand on a lightly floured surface for 2 to 3 minutes, or mix with a dough hook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Cover the bowl and set it in a warm spot for 10 minutes.
Filling and Rolling
  1. Stir softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon together until spreadable.
  2. Roll the dough to about 12 by 16 inches. Spread cinnamon-sugar butter from edge to edge.
  3. Roll up tightly toward one long side and pinch to seal.
  4. Slice into 12 rolls using a serrated knife.
Baking
  1. Arrange rolls in a greased 9 by 13 inch pan. Cover and let rest in a warm spot for 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Bake at 350°F for 18 to 22 minutes until lightly golden.
Glazing
  1. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

For variations, consider adding orange zest, maple syrup, or making a brown butter glaze. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
