  • 1/4 cup Fresh cilantro, chopped For a fresh finish.
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream For cooling contrast.
  • 1 medium Avocado, sliced or guacamole For richness.
Optional Extras
  • 1 cup Corn Add for sweetness and crunch.
  • 1/4 cup Olives, sliced For a briny flavor.
  • 2 stalks Green onions, chopped For fresh flavor.
  • to taste Hot sauce or lime juice Optional for extra flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Once no pink remains, drain excess fat.
  3. Season the beef with taco seasoning and a splash of water, stirring until saucy and fragrant, about 2 to 3 minutes. Taste and adjust salt.
  4. While the beef cooks, prepare toppings: chop tomatoes, cilantro, and green onions, rinse beans, and shred cheese.
Layering
  1. Build the first layer: Spread chips in a single layer on the sheet pan. Sprinkle a light layer of cheese, then add half the seasoned beef and half of the beans.
  2. Build the second layer: Add more chips, more cheese, the remaining beef, and beans. Finish with another generous layer of cheese.
Baking and Serving
  1. Bake in the oven for 6 to 8 minutes until the cheese melts and the edges of the chips are toasty. Monitor closely to ensure it doesn't burn.
  2. Once baked, top with fresh ingredients like tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeños, and dollops of sour cream or avocado. Serve salsa on the side.

Notes

To prevent sogginess, layer toppings smartly and avoid wet ingredients on chips until serving. To reheat leftovers, spread them on a sheet pan and reheat in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes. Avoid the microwave for best results.
