Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes to ensure uniform cooking.
  3. Rub a baking dish with garlic and butter to infuse flavor.
Layering
  1. Layer the sliced potatoes in the dish, seasoning with salt, pepper, and nutmeg in between.
  2. Pour heavy cream evenly over the layered potatoes.
  3. Top with grated Gruyère cheese.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For freezing, use a freezer-safe container and consume within 2 months. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
